Donald Trump Sets Record in Polarizing State of the Union
President Donald Trump gave a record-breaking 107-minute-long address at the State of the Union on February 24, 2026. In it, he celebrated a turnaround for the ages in his first year back in office. Although the approval rating is lower and midterm elections are in near future, Trump emphasized a triumphant narrative of American success with a "roaring" economy and a secure border. The speech was full of dramatic moments, including the gold medal-winning US men’s Olympic hockey team and American military heroes. The speech was also very polarizing. Trump engaged in a series of taunts with Democrats about immigration and "affordability." He also made few promises beyond AI energy deals and voter citizenship requirements.
